Two weeks away

Yesterday we attended the "get your documents/ and find out what to expect" meeting for our latest trip--THE GREEK ISLES and Croatia.
Looks like there will be about 18 Bwd folks traveling on this trip and we will be joined by others from all over the US to make a traveling group of about 42 or so.

We leave Bwd at 6:30am May 1 and travel by bus to DFW where we catch a plane to JFK in New York. Not much time in NY to make it to the international terminal for our trip to Milan. The domestic portion of the flight is 4 hrs, the second portion will be 7 hrs.. From Bwd to Milan, Italy will be 16 hours (actual time) altho' we gain 8 hours by flying across the Atlantic. For example, 12 noon in Brownwood will be 8pm the same day. This does take some getting used to.

The 7 days we spend on the cruise ship in the Mediterranean island hopping to Bari, Italy--Katakalon, Greece--Santorini and Mykonos--Rhodes--and Dubrovnik, Croatia will be very different for us. Not quite sure how this will work, but I certainly appreciate the fact that we DO NOT HAVE TO PACK AND UNPACK 3-5 times in that time span. The weather is supposed to be between 50 and 70 degrees, so a light jacket will be needed, but not the heavy layers of clothing we packed when we visited Scandinavia.

We are looking forward to this trip and are anxious to experience this new part of the world for us. If you continue to be interested in our adventures, keep checking this site from May 2- May 12. Internet is NOT available in our staterooms, but will be found in an internet cafe on board ship. We'll see. Until later----------------

Bubba does Canton

Had a REALLY long day Saturday, April 4th.

V and I left Bwd at 6 am headed for Canton's First Monday Trade Days. We had two additional stops before we arrived in Canton. First we detoured to Panera Bread on University St. in Fort Worth. We had breakfast and V bought some fancy bagels and raisin bread. Then we stopped in Arlington to leave some things with B and N. Hope the two dresses I made fit her, and that the two books will be of use.

And we offered BUBBA a ride back to Bwd. Bubba is a stuffed gorilla that has been in our family for about 20 years and he's been staying with N and B for the past 10 or so. N's weekend guests were uncomfortable being around Bubba, so he came with us just for awhile.

After the two stops we drove and drove til we got to Canton. First stop there was the Dish Barn, famous for low cost Fiesta Ware dishes. Altho' a little under-stocked, we found a few things we NEEDED and had fun looking and looking and looking.

T E was very good to help us find an excellent place to park, near the animal/dog area. His parents have a booth and sell accessories for animals. T E's son was really thrilled that he was able to purchase 2 bunnies. They are really small and fluffy and seriously cute.

We began walking and shopping and walking and shopping. Not sure that V had any mental list of possible purchases, but i did. I wanted some particular sized FiestaWare bowls--- which I found. I also wanted to find a flat leather wallet. And I found a really pretty blue one that fits the bill exactly.

I have a hard time with the idea that the economy is in serious trouble. There were a couple of gazillion people at Canton, buying lots of stuff. Everyone seemed to have a rolly cart with bags and boxes inside.

And something I have trouble understanding is WHY DO PEOPLE TAKE THEIR DOGS TO THE TRADING DAYS? Now I realize some of the dogs were bought on site and were just being taken home, but my guess is that the majority of the canines came with their masters. Not sure why--maybe someone out there can explain it to me. Is it separation anxiety? Or just what?

If you haven't been to Canton, perhaps you don't know what is sold there. Lots of clothes, with an over abundance of glitz. If you like boas (preferably pink) this is the place for you. Unusual furniture is available, jewelry, baby clothes, Mexican pottery and all sorts of "new and unusual" gimmicks. Also available were various sorts of underwear. All sorts of socks, and other sorts of underwear in various sizes and colors were there. I don't believe anyone with us bought any of the colorful undies.

Other than merchandise, there is available, food "on-a-stick". I had a sausage on a stick and V had a pork-kebob. And we shared a HUGE plate of curly fries which we couldn't finish. And to top it off Canton lemonade is really , really good. We continued to hydrate and walk and walk and walk. We didn't buy that much, just a few things; but V did find an interesting ceramic frog.

Did I mention that we walked and walked and walked?

When the time came to meet the others from our group (who left the day before, but that is another story for another day), we loaded up and headed back to Bwd. We stopped at a Boston Market somewhere along the way - it was really tasty and FAST. We do need to mention that we practiced the choir's Easter Cantata on the way back, so the time was not completely wasted. We got back to Bwd about 10:20---AS I SAID---A REALLY LOONG DAY.
